About Our School

Eastwood Elementary is one of six elementary schools in the city of New Castle, Indiana. The school is located in the eastern part of the community, slightly south of US 38. The school includes grades kindergarten through six, and serves approximately 300 lower socio-economic students.

The school is a Title 1 school-wide provider and houses two self contained emotional disabilities programs for the New Castle Special Services Cooperative. Other special needs services include learning disabilities, mild disabilities, hearing impaired, communication disorder , and related services. Approximately one-third of the students have an individualized education plan and a few students have 504 plans. Some students receive free or reduced lunch and textbook assistance.

The facility is approximately 30 years old. All areas of the building are handicap accessible except the stage area, which houses the music program. A Stair Climber is used to access this area for handicapped students.

The school operates a breakfast program and serves an average of 90 students each morning.

The educational programs offered are comparable to those of other schools with the same demographics. Eastwood has a full day kindergarten program supplemented by Title 1 services.

The school curriculum is consistent with the Indiana State Academic Standards. Staff members offer a variety of after school programs to enrich our curriculum.

The building houses three computer labs of different sizes. One of these labs is devoted solely to the Pearson Waterford Reading program. In addition, each classroom contains at least two computers for teacher and student use.
