Attendance

Notification of School in Case of Absence

If an absence occurs for any reason (except emergencies) a parent/guardian must call the school by phone or note before 4:00 p.m. on the day following each day of the absence or the absence will be recorded as unexcused.

NCCSC attendance policy defines perfect attendance  as present for every minute of every school day.

Excessive Absenteeism/Tardiness Per year is:

K through 6th grades - 17 days absent or 10 days of tardiness.  Attendance will be taken twice daily.  Students present any time between 8:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. will be counted as 1/2 day present a.m.  Students present any time after 11:15 a.m. will be counted as 1/2 day present p.m.

What Happens When a Student is Absent/Tardy too Much?

Attendance Due Process:

Families will be contacted in written form and/or with contact from the  school social worker with absentee information regarding the number of days missed or tardy to school in an effort to help resolve the attendance issues.  If concerns continue, the parents of any student who has demonstrated attendance concerns, such as excessive absenteeism, unverified absences or has failed to complete required make-up work will be informed that the Attendance Review Committee (A.R.C.) shall be convened to determine appropriate action.  Parents, and school staff will work together to improve attendance concerns.  Probationary Educational Agreements or attendance contracts that include opportunities for parents and students to collaboratively make up for lost instructional time may also be utilized if the A.R.C.deems valuable.
