As summer comes to a close we welcome our students to another school year, and we have no doubt it will be a successful one. As a district, New Castle Community Schools has made great advances the past few years, and we just continue to get better.
The Indiana Department of Education ranks schools using two methods, Public Law 221 (PL221) and Annual Yearly Progress (AYP). Both systems analyze in-depth criteria such as ISTEP+ and End of Course Assessment scores, attendance and graduation rates. Ranking are published in the fall for the previous school year.
Much like our students anticipate their report cards, we look forward to receiving state rankings, and like our students we generally have an idea how we will score. Last fall the district was awarded a passing grade on AYP, and preliminary test scores look good. We're excited to receive our rankings this year and see how we've improved yet again.
Each year we raise the bar, and each year our teachers and students rise to the challenge. The result is a constantly improving school district that administers to the educational needs of each individual student. Because of a large portion of these rankings are based on test scores, we know if we achieve higher rankings it is because our students are experiencing success, and that's a great feeling I'm proud of what we've accomplished and I'm even more excited for our students - our success is their success.
