MS Call Out March 19 2019
Good Afternoon,
This is Dr. Shoemaker. Today it was reported that one of our middle school students made a threat of violence. The threat was verbal, did not include the names of any other students or groups. As is protocol, the threat was thoroughly investigated by our School Administration and Resource Officers. The police determined that the threat was not credible. Regardless, the student will not return to school. Parents, we have had similar threats this year and I would encourage you to talk with your children and explain that they are responsible for their actions and words, both in school and out of school. Similarly, shortly after spring break the middle school administration and SRO’s will conduct educational sessions with middle school students about our expectations and the negative consequences of making such comments. Although none of the threats received this year were credible I wanted to make you aware that this week, we allocated a second full time resource officer for the middle school. This is our 5th officer and we had originally planned to add the 5th officer next school year. However in light of my recent call outs, I wanted our students and staff to have full confidence that they are in a safe learning environment. Lastly, our corporation has allocated over 1.5 million dollars over the past few years in security upgrades and the vast majority of our planned facility work in the future is designed to improve the safety and security of our schools. At our April 8th school board meeting, I will present a full list of safety initiatives and following the meeting, will post this information online. As always, I applaud the student for reporting what they heard today, and I’m grateful to all of you for your support.
