Principal's Message

Dear Westwood families,

Let me begin with thanking everyone who attended our Wildcat Night. I also want to add a special thank you to the PTO members & Westwood staff for preparing such a wonderful event. Students seemed to truly enjoy coming together and it is a nice way to help support our school.

To help expedite the student drop off process, I would like to ask that parents have children ready to exit the car as quickly as possible. I would also ask that you not wait until you get all the way to the front door to drop off students. Please begin to unload students anywhere along the front curb. I also ask that you never drop students off in the parking lot. This is for their safety.

Please let us know if you need a car rider name tag for your child. I know that I recognize most of you at this point, but please hold up or place the car rider name tag in the window of your car. This is important, as sometimes I am unable to do car rider dismissal.

When you come to pick up your car rider please enter the driveway and stay in the right lane along the curb. Please join the line from the West, many use Railroad Street to join the line from the East and avoid traffic in front of the school. Please stay in line and stay in your car. Your child will be released to you and should enter the car on the passenger side. Do not pass cars in front of you. Please drive slowly. Remember school buses have the right of way. The safety of our children is of the utmost importance.

Car riders must be picked up between 2:30 and 2:40 p.m. Students who have not been picked up during this time must be signed out for release from the office. In addition, please do not park your car & cross traffic to pick up a student after 2:15pm, you will need to get into the pickup line. Due to new security procedures, visitors will not be allowed to pick up students from their classrooms. We ask that all parents/guardians join the car rider pick up line. If you wish a conference with your child’s teacher, please contact the teacher in advance to make arrangements.

Lastly, we will once again be holding “Grandparents Day” here at Westwood. Donuts and juice will be provided in the Cafeteria from 7:45-8:15am. Grandparents or “Special Guest(s)” are welcome to join us based on your student’s last name and on the following dates:

  • Sept. 5th (A-F)
  • Sept. 6th (G-M)
  • Sept. 7th (N-Z)

Thank you and best wishes,

Mr. Carson
